The Back Porch

With its northern exposure, this is the perfect place to take a water break when we're working outside, or enjoy a drink before dinner while keeping an eye on the barbecue. It's here where, during the summer and fall, baskets full of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkins, and green beans are rinsed, sliced, diced, blanched, pickled and cooked to preserve them for the winter months. During this hottest time of the year we install electric burners, a toaster oven, a wok, an InstaPot, a tea kettle, and a large cutting board on a big table, turning the space into a modern version of the traditional 'summer kitchen'. Who needs the heat inside the house? Besides, cooking al fresco is so much more pleasurable!
