Windswept Farm is located in the rural, tri-county area of Lancaster, Berks, and Lebanon counties. In fact, the house, barn, and outbuildings are in West Cocalico Township and most of the hay field is in Lebanon County. It is zoned as “Ecologically Sensitive” which severely limits development. A set-aside of 25 acres is required for one house; Windswept, with 10 acres, is grandfathered.
At 1180 feet, Texter Mountain is the highest elevation in Lancaster County. Water from the spring on the east side of the property makes its way into the Chesapeake, hence the co-operation with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation with riparian buffers. A drop of water falling on the western property line takes another journey to the Atlantic; Tulpehocken Creek, Schuylkill River, Delaware River.
The mountain is valued for its cultivated fields and forests. Less than two miles away is the Texter Mountain Nature Preserve, 122 acres of hiking, running, mushroom foraging, and splashing about in Harnish Run.
One would be incorrect to assume that being surrounded by the natural world means being uncomfortably remote.
Windswept Farm is 20 minutes from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, 30 minutes from Reading, 30 minutes from Lebanon, and 40 minutes from Lancaster.
The Lancaster railway station has good, direct service to Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Jersey City, Newark International Airport, and New York City.
In case you have a really good reason to leave Windswept!
